E. Gordon Gee returned to lead The Ohio State University in 2007, after serving as chancellor of Vanderbilt University. Prior to his tenure at Vanderbilt, he was president of Brown University, Ohio State, the University of Colorado, and West Virginia University.
Born in Vernal, Utah, Gee graduated from the University of Utah with an honors degree in history and earned his J.D. and Ed.D. degrees from Columbia University. He clerked for the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals before serving as a judicial fellow for the U.S. Supreme Court. Gee returned to Utah as an associate professor in the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where he achieved the rank of full professor. In 1979 he was named dean of the West Virginia University Law School, and was appointed to that university’s presidency two years later.
Gee is the co-author of nine books and numerous papers and articles on law and education.
